2012, March 22

A tattoo design for a friend, dated July 24, 2011. If I remember correctly he didn't like the design for the word 'Listen', so I'll probably re work that in the future. He's been waiting a good little while for it.

  2. You are an artist! And a very good one. I can help with the issues you mentioned. Every artist struggles with these. You can check out my art at www.jackbarnhill.com. I'm a friend of your mom and dad. I teach Realism and Tromp 'Loeil at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. I am also on Facebook. Email is: Jack.Barnhill@mac.com. Jack Barnhill-Artist.

PS. I didn't start painting until 7 years ago. I served with your father in the 82d Airborne. Retired as a Major after 17 years. Tell me why you think.

  3. Thanks Jack. I do remember you, when you visited my Father some years back in Grosse Pointe. I can remember that Dad was quite pleased to see you, and that you seemed to be a very amiable person.

I like your site! Your work is great. I'd love to hear some advice on my work.

  4. I like your self-portrait. It's important that an artist do a self-portrait at least once a year. Your use of color is quite compelling. You're not afraid of bold statements which is good. The key to understanding color, is both visual and technical. For more advanced information on color I would recommend; Johannes Itten, "The Elements of Color” Or “The Art of Color”; also Josef Albers', “Interaction of Color”. For a basic introduction to pigments I would recommend Ralph Mayer's, " The Artist Handbook Of Materials and Techniques”. This Is an Essential Reference for Any Artist. I'll send you more information later.
